2nd February, 2012 - 3rd March, 2012
Praneet, whose work has been exhibited internationally and was recently seen in the India Pavilion in the 2011 Venice Biennale, is doing a Solo show in the city of Kolkata for the first time. Praneet Soi is a young and promising Painter, sculptor and installation artist. Born in India, educated in India and the United States. His artworks are more than just an expression, theylink up multiple cultural traditions, techniques and political concerns. The canvas holds a solid body of colour or blank, which creates an impenetrable background. The background holds a human figure or two indulging in some unspecified action. The intentional disorientation of pictorial space, where foreground and background lose their respective functions. Praneet comments “I started to look at my paintings in a documentary light, related to the existing reality all around us; it was a more sociological approach to art in general and to painting in particular.” Praneet Soi currently lives and works between Kolkata and Amsterdam.
The show will be on display in our gallery space until the 3rd of March, 2012. Gallery Timings are Monday – Saturday, 12 noon – 8 pm (Except Sundays).
